Swansea nonprofit helps veterans in transition to civilian life

SWANSEA – Heidrea for Heroes Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to providing support to members of the military facing challenges and hurdles after transitioning back to civilian life, has donated a desktop computer to a veteran Bristol Community College student.
Kevin Brooks, a resident of Swansea, father of two young children and a U.S. Air Force veteran, is attending the college on the Post-9/11 GI Bill. Enrolled in the engineering program, he relies on a computer that works with a CAD program, but his computer failed at the beginning of the school year.
Through contact with the college’s veterans’ career development counselor, Heidrea for Heroes became involved.
“We all know there are significant challenges in balancing higher education with a young family,” said Jesse Brown, a co-founder of Heidrea for Heroes. “We thought Kevin was the perfect candidate to help, and we wish him the very best in his college studies.”
Brooks thanked the organization for its donation.
“Most of us who are veterans leave the military with families and a small budget, and getting ahead is nearly impossible,” he said. “But it’s nice to know we’re not alone. Companies like Heidrea for Heroes truly want to help us succeed in life.”
Based in Plymouth, Mass., Heidrea for Heroes has an application process for veterans in need of assistance and welcomes Massachusetts veterans of any age to submit. Applications and more information about the organization can be found online at heidrea4heroes.org, or by calling (774) 773-3951.
