Starting Friday, the Community Players of Pawtucket will present “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.” Described as a “chilling, suspenseful, heart-pounding masterpiece of murderous barber-ism and culinary crime,” the play chronicles an unjustly exiled barber who returns to 19th-century London seeking revenge against the judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. Todd’s thirst for blood soon expands to include his customers and the proprietress of the pie shop downstairs who has the people of London lining up for a mysterious new meat pie recipe.

Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. through Sunday, April 28
