PROVIDENCE – Swipely Inc., the fast-growing technology company, is changing its name to Upserve with the launch of its new spring products.
The company specializes in management-assistance technology for restaurateurs and estimates it managed 11 million meals per month in the last quarter, which is a 175 percent increase compared with the prior year period.
The company says the new name was “inspired by the energy and passion that restaurateurs have for their guests, staff and food.”
“Restaurateurs want to delight guests, provide great food and run smoother service. Upserve is the magic ingredient,” said Angus Davis, CEO and founder, in a prepared statement. “Our new brand reflects our focus and commitment to our fast-growing customer base, best evidenced by our spring ’16 product release, which serves up clear guidance that helps restaurants thrive.”
The new name coincides with the launch of new products, including a mobile app that gives restaurant owners real-time updates about what’s happening on the floor, and software that predicts each night’s service, including rundowns on how many people will dine and which wine to offer returning VIP guests. Another new tool, Upserve Guest Book, offers to guide marketing decisions, according to the company.
The company’s payment technology, Upserve Payments, processes more than $7 billion in annual payment volume, according to the company.
The launch coincides with improvements made to all modules in Upserve’s product suite, including:

  • Upserve Shift Prep: Table-management, point of sale and CRM systems integration, predicting how many people will dine each night
  • Upserve Mobile: Real-time, anytime insight into what’s happening on the floor
  • Upserve Server Performance: New features measure front of house staff performance by turn time, guest retention, and usage of voids or discounts
  • Upserve Menu Intelligence: Shows restaurateurs which items to promote and which may need to be crossed off the menu, using artificial intelligence that understands every review
  • Upserve Guest Book: Data from leading table management systems are now fully integrated into Guest Book, giving it a 360-degree view of every guest, across all locations
  • Upserve Sales: Analytics for restaurant sales across locations and POS platforms, now providing new views into comps, voids and covers, to spot key trends at the heart of the operation
  • Upserve Loyalty: Restaurants now have the option of “white-labeling Upserve Loyalty,” making it easier to reward repeat guests based on spending or visits, using the client’s brand or Upserve’s

Upserve, founded in 2009, is backed by First Round Capital, Shasta Ventures, Index Ventures, Pritzker Group and Greylock Partners, among others.
