SyQwest awarded sixth defense contract in four years

WARWICK – SyQwest Inc., a local provider of high-resolution sonar and acoustic systems for seafloor exploration, has been awarded a five-year contract with the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport to repair and restore TR-317 transducers used aboard the U.S. naval fleet of submarines.
The contract – the sixth awarded to SyQwest by the U.S. Department of Defense in the last four years – has a maximum value at completion of $5 million.
“We are pleased to have won this U.S. Navy TR-317 transducer contract,” said Robert Tarini, CEO of SyQwest. “We continue to demonstrate to the U.S. Navy that SyQwest Inc. is a very capable, high-quality, cost-effective provider of goods and services.”
The TR-317 tonpilz transducer is the building block for the spherical bow-array sonar used aboard 688-I and Virginia-class submarines. The sonar array functions as the main active and passive sonar and search tool for these submarines, SyQwest said.
