T.F. Green makes Wi-Fi public

Posted 10/12/11

WARWICK – The T.F. Green Airport made its Wi-Fi available to the public during the last week in September.

The airport announced Oct. 6 that travelers can access the free wireless service “AWG-WiFi” after viewing a 30-second advertisement that should work anywhere in the terminal.

The airport issued a request for proposals in 2010 and Advanced Wireless Group LLC was selected as the vendor. It took a while to get the “wiring” in place – it was done this summer and made live at the end of September, a spokeswoman for the airport said.

“We are pleased to be able to provide this free service to our loyal customers. In this age of technology, travelers want to be connected to the Internet at all times,” said Kevin Dillon, president and CEO of the R.I. Airport Corporation. “We feel this is another convenience that makes for smooth traveling at T.F. Green Airport.”

“The trend continues for airports to provide a free access option for public Wi-Fi service as a passenger amenity” said Scott Phillips, president & CEO of AWG.

“Airports are faced with the unique challenge of balancing their need to provide this key passenger service with generating associated revenue to offset the costs. AWG is the industry leader in providing free and hybrid Wi-Fi access in airports to help airports meet that challenge.”
