WARWICK – Just in time for the busy Thanksgiving travel period, T.F. Green Airport has been named the third best airport in the country – and the best in New England – in the Conde Nast Traveler 2015 Readers’ Choice awards.
The airport moved up four spots from last year’s rank of seventh in the survey. Green was recognized for its convenience and location as the “gateway to southern New England,” according to the description on the Conde Nast website.
“A newer train station at the airport connects travelers to both Providence and Boston. There’s even train service to Foxboro for Patriots football games. The airport is small and it takes no time to navigate,” it reads.
Indianapolis was ranked as the top airport in the country, while Portland, Ore., was ranked second. LaGuardia Airport in New York was named the worst airport.
The poll results are included in Conde Nast Traveler’s November issue, which also rates hotels, airlines and tourist destinations around the world.

Kelly Fredericks, R.I. Airport Corporation president and CEO, said, “We could not be more pleased and proud that Green is again rated as one of the best in the U.S. and the best in New England. This acknowledgement reaffirms that people truly enjoy using our airport for the exceptional customer service and pleasant travel experience. We share this latest recognition with all our travel partners, who work to ensure a safe and efficient journey and make Green one of the best airports in the country. We also thank those who took the time to vote for us in the Conde Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards and congratulate the other airports on the list.”

Gov. Gina M. Raimondo said one of the things she pitches about Rhode Island is its “convenient, easy-to-access airport” when trying to attract business.
“I am confident T.F. Green will play an important role in Rhode Island’s comeback as we work to attract more businesses, visitors and families to grow our economy,” she said.
T.F. Green is the third largest airport in New England, according to information from the airport. Airlines serving Green include American Airlines, Delta Airlines, JetBlue, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines and Cape Air (seasonal). International service includes TACV Cabo Verde Airlines, which flies year-round to Cape Verde and Condor Airlines, which offers seasonal service to Frankfurt, Germany.
The airport issued an advisory earlier this week in advance of the holiday travel rush, reminding travelers to allow extra time to navigate from parking areas to ticketing through the security checkpoint. Busier-than-usual passenger levels are expected Tuesday through Sunday.

  1. too bad more people don’t use it, but pricing has a lot to do with it. I mean, both URI and PC flew out of Boston to their basketball tournaments this week. I wonder if the Governor flew from here when she went to the West Coast on business?

  2. It may be not price that sent these two teams to Boston this time, but available seats from Providence during this holiday period . I am in and out quite often and every flight is full or just about even in non holiday times. What we need are more flights either by a new carrier or an existing carrier that will commit more capacity here. As for pricing, there are some markets that cost more but many are quite competitive. College teams use this airport all the time.
