T.F. Green posts 1.6% passenger gain in August

WARWICK – Passenger traffic at T.F. Green Airport increased 1.6 percent to 337,336 in August over a year ago, according to the R.I. Airport Corp. With that gain, total passenger traffic at the state’s only commercial airport has increased 2.7 percent through the first eight months of the year to 2,428,374.
Of the five major domestic carriers, only American Airlines showed an increase in passenger traffic – by 17.7 percent to 87,279 – although the recent merger with U.S. Airways makes year-over-year comparisons difficult. Delta Airlines showed an 11.7 percent decline for the month to 40,453; Jet Blue Airways registered a 0.05 percent decline to 24,158; Southwest Airlines saw a 0.8 percent decline to 143,179, and United Airlines traffic fell 2.8 percent to 32,787.
TACV Cabo Verde Airlines, which flies year-round to Cape Verde, saw a 15 percent year-over-year increase to 3,347, while Condor Airlines, which offers seasonal service to Germany, posted a 17.56 percent decline to 3,235 passengers. SATA International (Azores Airlines), which did not offer service a year ago to the Azores, flew 1,464 people in August.
Southwest remains the dominant carrier at T.F. Green, with 42.4 percent of the traffic in August, followed by American, with 25.9 percent, Delta, 12 percent, United, 9.7 percent, and JetBlue, 7.2 percent.
Cargo handled at T.F. Green totaled 2,428,656 lbs. in August, an increase over August 2015 of 11.7 percent. For the year, 17,245,725 lbs. of cargo has been handled at the airport, a 0.8 percent increase compared with the first eight months of 2015.
