T.F. Green reports passenger decline in March, but year-to-date increase

PROVIDENCE – T.F. Green Airport reported a 0.13 percent decrease in passengers in March, to 305,039 from 305,434 a year ago.
However, when looking at the first three months of the year, passenger traffic rose 4.8 percent, to 805,505 compared with 768,578 during the prior-year period, the R.I. Airport Corporation said Thursday.

Southwest Airlines continued to hold the largest market share among the five major carriers at 51 percent and 155,711 passengers in March, followed by American Airlines at 22.2 percent and 67,823; Delta Airlines at 11.1 percent and 33,970; JetBlue at 8.2 percent and 24,870; and United Airlines at 6.2 percent and 18,819.

TACV Cabo Verde Airlines, which flies year-round to Cape Verde, held 0.6 percent market share; it had 1,771 passengers in March. The airline started offering service from Green last June so a year-over-year comparison is unavailable. Year to date, it has had 5,155 passengers.

Only Delta and Southwest reported passenger increases over the year in March, at 0.5 percent and 0.08 percent, respectively.

United Airlines had the sharpest decline at 7.5 percent. JetBlue reported a 4.5 percent drop, and American Airlines had a 1.2 percent decrease.

Cargo in March increased 13.2 percent for a total of 2,153,610 pounds enplaned and deplaned, and rose 2.2 percent year to date, to 5,880,998 pounds.
