WARWICK – T.F. Green Airport saw a year-to-year increase in passenger traffic in May, with 340,639 total passengers, a 7.29 percent rise from May 2012, according to numbers released by the R.I. Airport Corporation.

The airport’s year-to-date passenger traffic also saw an increase over 2012: T.F. Green’s 1.5 million passengers in the first five months of 2013 constituted a 2.48 percent jump from 2012.

Though the airport appeared to reverse the steady downward trend of the past several years, its passenger traffic numbers were still lower than those of 2009, 2010 and 2011.

T.F. Green also saw large year-to-year increases in total cargo enplaned and deplaned. In May, the airport transported roughly 2.1 million pounds of cargo, an 8.2 percent increase over May 2012. Year to date, the cargo tonnage increased 14.31 percent over 2012.

The five airlines with the greatest share of T.F. Green’s passenger traffic in May were Southwest Airlines, at 46.8 percent; US Airways, at 23.1 percent; Delta Airlines, at 12.8 percent; United Airlines, at 10.2 percent; and JetBlue Airways, at 7 percent.

Among them, US Airways and Southwest registered year-to-year increases in May: US Airways’ passenger traffic grew 2.95 percent, and Southwest saw a 0.79 rise. United fell 1.74 percent, while Delta dropped 5.52 percent. JetBlue did not fly into or out of the airport in May 2012.

In 2013 so far, T.F. Green has had 24,799 aircraft depart or land at the airport.
