WARWICK – Readers of Travel + Leisure magazine have voted T. F. Green Airport one of the best airports in the country for the second time in the last five years.

Ranking at No. 1 for its accessible location and No. 2 for its smooth check-in process, T.F. Green rose this year to place at No. 4 overall among U.S. airports, up from a 2009 overall ranking at No. 6.

T.F. Green was the only airport in New England to land a spot in the top 10 for the 2013 ranking.

“It is an honor to be selected once again by Travel + Leisure readers for our continued commitment to customer service,” said Kelly Fredericks, president and CEO of the Rhode Island Airport Corporation, in a prepared statement. “As the only New England Airport rated in the top 10, we could not be more pleased and hope this helps to attract more passengers to our great facility.”

Travel + Leisure readers were asked to rate 68 domestic airports in eight categories, including business and family travel, flight delays, design, food and drink, shopping, check-in and location. Everett Potter, Travel + Leisure contributor, wrote that both business and leisure travelers appreciate T.F. Green’s easy check-in process and efficient layout.

“Those are powerful enough endorsements that some travelers actually heading to Boston, an hour away, will choose easy-breezy T. F. Green over congested Logan Airport,” Potter wrote. “The food and shopping may not be something to write home about, but chances are you won’t be stuck here long.”

The Travel + Leisure readership ranking comes during a six-month upswing in T.F. Green’s passenger numbers, and continued progress on an improvement program to enhance safety areas in the airport and extend the length of the primary runway to accommodate larger aircraft and new service.

In addition to the airport’s 2009 placement at No. 6 overall, Travel + Leisure readers in 2010 voted T.F. Green No. 1 for on-time performance, No. 1 for staff efficiency and No. 2 for its functional design.

“Our focus is to provide the safest and best possible travel experience, and with this positive affirmation by our users, we know the efforts of all who work here are making a difference,” said Fredericks.

This year, two airlines that fly into and out of T.F. Green – JetBlue Airways and Southwest Airlines – also earned top scores from Travel + Leisure readers, who voted the airlines No. 2 and No. 3 in the country, respectively.

now if this would add more flights, to cities already served like Alanta, Minneapolis, etc. Or add new N/S to Denver, Phoenix, Dallas, Pittsburg, etc then this news would be great.
