Taco/White supports new boilers at Providence Center

PROVIDENCE – The Providence Center recently purchased and installed four new gas-fired, high-efficiency boilers at its physical plant at 530 Main St., thanks to a $20,000 gift from the Taco/White Foundation. The new energy system will save almost $40,000 in energy costs a year over the previous boilers, which date back to the 1960s.
The new heating system is a “green” system, with four modulating condensing boilers by HTP supported by Taco pumps and related equipment. Instead of one zone for the 72,000 square feet building, the new system has six zones controlled by a Web-based controls interface.
With the operation of the high-efficiency boilers, the Providence Center estimates a reduction of carbon emissions in the order of 200,000 lbs. per year.
The North Main Street building, dating from 1875 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was the former site of the American Screw Company. It is one of two main buildings that The Providence Center operates in Providence.
