Learn about the importance of taverns in early Rhode Island and sample some state-brewed beer Friday at Lincoln’s Arnold House. In 1710, the Arnold House received its tavern license and began hosting an array of travelers journeying between Providence and Mendon. Robert Geake, author of “Historic Taverns of Rhode Island,” will share the significance of local taverns of the past. After his history lesson, visitors can take in colonial music performed by the local group Barnacle, and sample beer provided in partnership with Providence’s Union Station Brewery.
