Taunton youth center receives $5K gift from local bank

TAUNTON – The Boys & Girls Club of Taunton recently received a $5,000 donation from Mechanics Cooperative Bank, which will go toward its emergency building repair fund.

“Without this financial support and the commitment of local businesses like Mechanics Cooperative Bank, and their President Joseph T. Baptista Jr., the club could not complete much-needed building repairs in a timely manner,” said Jill Precopio, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Taunton.

Baptista, president and CEO of Mechanics Cooperative Bank, understands the importance of community services like the Boys & Girls Club and was eager to help.

“We are a better city for having a Boys and Girls Club and as a local community bank, and community partner, it was our pleasure to help,” he said.

The “Clubhouse” (31 Court St.) is open every day after school and during most school vacations. Club members may drop in at any time to engage in supervised activities led by Boys & Girls Club staff. In addition to serving as a daily drop-in facility for young people, the Boys & Girls Club of Taunton offers a licensed child care program, several youth sports leagues and swim lessons. Each summer, the club operates Summer Camp at Lewis Park, a fantastic day camp facility located on 45 acres at 388 Harvey St. in Taunton.
