PROVIDENCE – Mayor Angel Taveras and executive director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence, Nicole Dufresne, announced two free programs that will be available to Rhode Island children and teenagers this summer.
A daily program will be available to 50 children at the South Side Clubhouse, and teen nights will be hosted on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
“The South Side Clubhouse is an important resource for the community, and we are grateful to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence for extending this resource and their support to even more of our kids,” Taveras said in a statement. “Today’s announcement provides another great opportunity for our children and teens to stay active, healthy and engaged this summer.”
The children’s program will run from 12 to 5 p.m. will be available for children ages 6 through 12. The program provides organized activities including swimming and extends until Aug. 16.
The teen nights, made possible by the Boys & Girls Club and the Providence Housing Authority, will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m. and will be open to up to 50 young adults. Activities will include time in the pool, the gym and other special activities.
“Our Clubhouses often serve as a home away from home for many, particularly during the summer months when children and teens need access to fun, educational, and safe activities – I’m very pleased to extend our resources to even more of Providence’s youth,” Dufresne said.
Rhode Island youth have other opportunities for summer activities at the four pools and 10 water parks that are free and open to the public. Water parks are open Monday through Saturday, 12 to 5 p.m., pools are open Monday through Friday 12 to 5 p.m.
