Most issues of PBN include what is known as a focus section. This week’s focus is “Corporate Outings.”
Starting on Page 1 with a story about team-building exercises built around shooting at “sporting clays,” then moving on to stories about racing sailboats or Chinese dragon boats, the theme of the section is the importance of spending effort to create a workplace that values and facilitates effective collaboration among colleagues.
The stories highlight the potential of these very off-site venues to build trust – after all, when racing a sailboat, a lack of trust can send all onboard to an early, not to mention cold and wet, and unscheduled conclusion.
Staff can get to know one another, especially crucial if new hires are struggling to integrate themselves, or they can have time to discuss business without the digital interruptions that define so many workdays.
Today’s competitive environment demands that successful companies fire on all cylinders. Finding new ways to help that goal become reality can be fun, too. •
