Tech Boot Camp announces schedule

CRANSTON – The Tech Boot Camp, a digital literacy program put together by Broadband Rhode Island, announced its winter and spring schedule.

Intermediate-level computer classes, ranging from eBay basics to photo editing, will take place at the Central Library in Cranston, 140 Sockanosset Cross Road, in the main meeting room. To register, call: 401-943-9080 ext.122.

The classes are 90 minutes in length and are free and open to the public. Schedule follows:

• Feb. 2 – eBay Basics 2-3:30 p.m.

  Learn the basics of buying and selling on this popular auction website. No registration required,

• Feb. 9 – Downloading Audiobooks 2:-3:30 p.m.

  Learn how to download free audiobooks from the library’s E-Zone website to your iPod, MP3 player, or computer. No registration required.

• Feb. 15 – Google Docs 6-7:30 p.m.

  Discover Google Docs, a free web based office suite that has programs similar to Microsoft Office. We will create documents, spreadsheets, presentations and surveys online. Registration is required, Limit 15 people.

• March 1 – Craigslist Basics 2-3:30 p.m.

  Learn the basics of popular free online classified site Craigslist. Learn how to post an ad, set up an account and learn what type of content is listed on the site. No registration required.

• March 13, 20, 27 – Microsoft Word 2007 10-11:30 a.m.

  This 3-part Intermediate class will show advanced Word 2007 features like text-formatting, spacing, fonts, layouts, shapes, graphs, and more! Registration required, limit 10 people.

• March 22– eReaders & EZone 2-3:30 p.m.

  Get step-by-step instruction on how to download free eBooks to your eReader from the library’s E-Zone digital download website. No registration required.

• March 29 – PowerPoint Basics 2-3:30 p.m.

  Turn your speech into a multimedia presentation with PowerPoint. This versatile program creates slideshows. The class will cover the essentials of creating a presentation. Registration required, limit 10 people.

• April 5– Photo Editing 2-3:30 p.m.

  This workshop will teach you how to use free photo editing software available online. Touch up your photos so they will look “picture perfect” every time! Registration required, limit 15 people.

• April 26. Photo Sharing with Flickr 2-3:30 p.m.

  Flickr is an online picture sharing, storage, and management application. Learn about creating a Flickr account, uploading your pictures, and controlling access. Registration required, limit 10 people.

• May 3 – Introduction to Twitter 2-3:30 p.m.

  Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables users to send and receive 140 character messages called tweets. In this class we will look at the basics of Twitter, setting up a Twitter account and review popular third party Twitter tools. Registration required, limit 10 people.

• May 10 – eReaders & EZone 2-3:30 p.m.
