Tech Collective calls for job postings

PROVIDENCE – Tech Collective, Rhode Island’s IT and bioscience-industry association, is currently accepting both job postings and applicants for its 2013 Fellowship program.
The program, funded by the Governor’s Workforce Board of Rhode Island and the Rhode Island Job Development Fund aims to “build the workforce pipeline” while filling the state’s talent gap on two levels.
According to an organization release, the fellowship program provides industry employers with qualified candidates to potentially fill open positions and provides 2013 college graduates with “valuable, hands-on, industry experience.”
This is the second year for the Tech Collective’s fellowship program. In its pilot year, the program hosted five recent graduates, successfully garnering post-employment for all five fellows.
“Continuing on the success of last year’s Fellowship program with 100 percent job placement, we are eager and excited for the 2013 program,” Kathie Shields, executive director of Tech Collective, said in prepared remarks.
In the 2013 program, fellowship positions will run from June through August for 10 to 12 weeks and from 32 to 40 hours per week. Each fellow will be paid a weekly stipend funded 70 percent through the Workforce Board’s Jobs Initiatives program and 30 percent by the host company.
“We encourage employers to take advantage of the Fellowship program and to benefit from the fresh ideas, talent, and approaches these recent graduates can bring to the company table,” said Shields. “For employers who already do work with our local colleges and universities, funding from the Governor’s Workforce Board for the Fellowship program allows them to do so a little easier. For recent graduates, it takes some of the financial burden off of them while they take an opportunity to develop their knowledge base, build their networks, and gain real-world experience.”
Although participating companies are asked to have open positions they are looking to fill by the graduates, there are no hiring commitments.
