Ten Salve profs named Pell Center fellows

NEWPORT – Bolstering an effective team of fellows in global policy didn’t require a far-and-wide search by James M. Ludes, executive director of Salve Regina University’s Pell Center for International Relations and Public Policy.

Announced Dec. 19, the new roster is underscored by diverse multinational private sector professionals as well as university professors. In fact, Salve Regina faculty comprises 10 of the 15 currently-filled positions, including five others.

In order to meet the objectives of the group, Ludes said he wanted to bring together a group that would represent a blend of “traditional academics, policy professionals, and social entrepreneurs,” according to a release.

The team will embody the knowledge and expertise in the study and implementation of policy in the community – a class of “people who know how to get things done,” Ludes said. With the goal of gathering leaders who can not only think, but also craft meaningful policy advice, he concluded, “In this first class of fellows, I think we’ve done just that.”

Ludes, who served as executive director for the American Security Project, worked within the Department of Defense as a member of President Barack Obama’s Transition Team.

The Pell Center is Salve University’s policy research and public information center, which dedicates its services (and namesake) to the political legacy the late Sen. Claiborne Pell, the mastermind behind the federal Pell college grant program.
