Textron System’s sensor wins Border Security Award

PROVIDENCE – Wilmington, Mass.-based Textron Defense Systems, an operating unit of Textron Inc. subsidiary Textron Systems earned recognition for its MicroObserver Unattended Ground Sensor system.
The system has been named “Best Outdoor/Ground Sensor” by GSN: Government Security News as part of the publication’s inaugural Border Security Awards program.
The MicroObserver earned a Platinum Award – the top honor – in its “detection solutions” product category.
The ground sensor system is currently used by both the U.S. Army and customers in the Middle East, according to a company release. The MicroObserver UGS system delivers “actionable intelligence with new levels of covertness, ease-of-use and performance that greatly enhances border and surveillance monitoring.”
The MicroObserver detects, classifies, tracks and displays “actionable intelligence” by shoing the position, direction and speed of threats, whether personnel or vehicular.
“The MicroObserver UGS system is a proven border security solution, and we’re honored to have its capabilities acknowledged with this award,” Textron Defense Systems Vice President of Advanced Weapons & Sensors Henry Finneral said in a statement.
“In addition to delivering cost-effective actionable intelligence, MicroObserver is easy for the user to operate, maintain and upgrade, making it one of the most effective tools available for land border protection,” added Finneral.
GSN announced its 2013 winners on Monday, March 11 at the 7th annual Border Security Expo in Phoenix. Entries were reviewed by a panel of independent judges.
