PROVIDENCE – The Limited closed all 250 of its stores around the country this past weekend, including the store at Providence Place mall.

The Columbus, Ohio-based women’s clothing chain posted the following message on its website: “We’re sad to say that all The Limited stores nationwide have officially closed their doors.”

The message went on to say that the retailer would still sell clothing online.

Fortune quoted a statement from Sun Capital Partners Inc., the private equity owner of the women’s retail chain, about the decision to close stores: “In an increasingly challenging environment for mall-based retail and women’s apparel, we are very disappointed that the company has had to make the difficult decision to close its retail locations.”

Fortune said approximately 4,000 jobs were lost as a result of the decision.

Just last week, Kmart, Macy’s and Sears announced store closings, totaling eight in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
