Therapist arrested for insurance-larceny charges

PROVIDENCE – A Little Compton therapist was arrested for alleged larceny of $83,863.88 from Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island.
According to R.I. State Police Superintendent Col. Steven G. O’Donnell’s office, Denise A. Fleurant, 55, was arrested and charged with insurance fraud, obtaining money under false pretenses over $1,500 and filing a false document with a public official.
According to a news release, the investigation was led by the State Police Financial Crimes Unit and was initiated after receiving a complaint from the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island Special Investigations Unit. Fleurant is a licensed marriage and family therapist and the owner of Newport Psychological Services in Middletown.
The investigation resulted in the issuance of an arrest warrant alleging that Fleurant had submitted fraudulent bills to the insurer for psychological testing that her patients never received. •
