Every week, PBN profiles a small business in a feature titled "Spotlight." The enterprises can be retailers, designers, manufacturers, book binders, restaurants, or as is the case this week, a Warwick baker of wholesome treats for dogs.
If you have a dog, you may have seen some of the shop's wares, which are baked and decorated to look like bones, dog bowls, even the Pawtucket Red Sox mascot Paws, among other designs. They do not include salt or sugar, which are not good for dogs to consume in significant quantities, but they are designed to be tasty to canines.
The point of the story, and the feature in general, is not to give a shout-out to any specific business. Rather, it is to offer continuing proof of the power of the entrepreneurial spark in Rhode Island. With only middling economic performance on many measures, it's easy to forget that many people in the Ocean State are starting and growing businesses here.
Being a success is not easy, of course. But for this business, it's true that every dog can have his cake and eat it, too. •
