A recurring theme in this year’s Best Places To Work is family.
Nearly all of this year’s winners in the seventh edition of the Best Places To Work program talk about taking care of co-workers’ personal needs, about maintaining a work-life balance that allows them to perform to the utmost while keeping their families happy and healthy, while having peace of mind.
It is a difficult balance, but reading the profiles of this year’s honorees produces some hints about how it’s done – from formal employee-assistance programs to creating opportunities for informal but personal talk among staff.
The process for choosing the Best Places To Work is conducted by The Best Companies Group, as it is every year. The results are based on a survey of workplace policies and benefits, then validated by extensive and confidential employee surveys. And the results this year yielded 40 winners.
This year for the first time, the Best Places To Work has a presenting sponsor, UnitedHealthcare. In addition, partner sponsors are Collette Vacations, Cox Business, Pawtucket Credit Union and USI Insurance Services. The media sponsor is AM790.
While it is a great accomplishment to make this list once, it is a testament to the strength of an organization when it makes the list multiple times. And for those who have made the list each of the seven years PBN has run the program, my hat is off. It’s a dwindling group, unfortunately, but here are the companies that have been named one of the Best Places To Work in each of the seven years PBN has offered the program: Edward Jones, Embrace Home Loans (formerly Advanced Financial Services Inc.), Hinckley Allen & Snyder LLP and Kahn, Litwin, Renza & Co. Let’s hope they can keep up the momentum next year. And wouldn’t it be something for other companies to start their own streaks of making the list, too?
