Thoughtcap consultancy restructures

PROVIDENCE – Thoughtcap, a 14-year-old consultancy run by Jack Templin, has restructured as a partnership with John Bennett.
Based in Providence and targeting clients in Rhode Island, New York and, potentially, Boston and beyond, the limited liability corporation formed in July and advises company founders and executives on software product definition, design and development, Templin and Bennett said. The two are equal partners.
Bennett brings engineering expertise to the firm, said Templin, having led a team at Huge, where, according to the website, he oversaw delivery of software, content- and ecommerce-based websites, as well as mobile apps for clients such as AARP and Comcast Corp.
“Delivering software products is a very complex thing that involves a lot of different disciplines,” Templin said. “A very large percentage of founders and executives can benefit a lot from having a trusted adviser that they can turn to [in order] to develop any aspects of their software development.”
Bennett characterized the duo as problem-solvers for technical issues.
“Since we’ve both been on both sides of the consultant and client relationship we can provide clients with a really good set of experience and advice,” Bennett said. “We’re not trying to provide all the services ourselves, but we can be a really good matchmaker and adviser along the way.”
Charges for clients on retainer start at $7,500, and fees for other services escalate from there. With four clients so far, the company is bringing in revenue and making a profit, the partners said. They currently work out of their home offices, they said.
