SAN FRANCISCO – Three Rhode Island restaurants – Bouchard Restaurant and Inn, Castle Hill Inn and Gracie’s – made OpenTable’s list of the Top 100 Best Restaurants in the United States for 2012.

OpenTable, a provider of free, real-time online restaurant reservations for diners, and reservation and guest management solutions for restaurants, compiled its list by analyzing more than 5 million reviews for more than 15,000 restaurants in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

The list of winners spanned 27 states and Washington, D.C., with California restaurants earning 24 out of the 100 spots on the list.

Newport was strongly represented in Rhode Island with Bouchard Restaurant and Inn at 505 Thames St. and Castle Hill Inn at 590 Ocean Ave. Gracie’s, a restaurant serving contemporary American cuisine at 194 Washington St. in Providence, also made the list.

Overall, restaurants that served American fare dominated OpenTable’s list, though French cuisine was also strongly represented.

“This year’s honorees have accomplished what every restaurant aspires to – making guests feel as though they have had a truly singular dining experience,” OpenTable Chief Dining Officer Caroline Potter said in a statement. “These best overall restaurants are consistently getting it right on every level, from top-flight ambiance and service to cocktail lists and menus that positively dazzle diners.”

The Diners’ Choice Awards for the Top 100 Best Restaurants in the U.S. were generated from more than 5 million reviews collected from verified OpenTable diners between Dec. 1, 2011, and Nov. 30, 2012.

Restaurants with the minimum number of qualifying reviews were then sorted according to a score calculated from each restaurant’s average rating in the “overall” category, the restaurant’s rating relative to others in the same metropolitan area and the average number of restaurants reviewed by diners who reviewed that restaurant.
