Three R.I. schools named Blue Ribbon Schools

PROVIDENCE – Three Rhode Island schools were named 2016 Blue Ribbon Schools, the highest honor given by the U.S. Department of Education, according to an announcement from the R.I. Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Thursday.

Barrington High School and South Kingstown’s Peace Dale Elementary School were honored for their overall academic excellence.

Kent Heights Elementary School, in East Providence, was highlighted for closing achievement gaps among academic subgroups.

Ken Wagner, commissioner of elementary and secondary education, congratulated the students, teachers and Blue Ribbon communities.
