WARWICK – Three airlines are adding additional flights at T.F. Green Airport, the R.I. Airport Corporation announced in advance of the holiday travel season.

U.S. Airways Group Inc. has added two daily departures from Green to New York City’s LaGuardia Airport, bringing the carrier’s total to six a day.

Delta Air Lines Inc. recently upgraded its 1:10 p.m. flight from Green to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to a larger plane with 142 seats. The carrier also added a fifth daily flight to Detroit that leaves at 6:30 p.m., and other flights to Detroit have added seats because of jet upgrades.

Delta, which merged with Northwest Airlines Inc. last year, now has nine daily departures from Green, up from eight a year ago, and 172 additional seats available.

In addition, Southwest Airlines Co. has announced plans to boost its seasonal service from Green to Florida starting in mid-March.

Southwest will run three Saturday and two weekday flights to Fort Lauderdale – Hollywood International Airport; seven Saturday and five weekday flights to Orlando International Airport; and four Saturday and three weekday flights to Tampa International Airport.

“We are pleased our airlines continue to add more jet service and additional seats on flights to some of our popular destinations,” Kevin A. Dillon, president and CEO of the R.I. Airport Corporation, said in a statement. “This is an affirmation of our strong catchment area and demand. We expect it will continue as the economy rebounds.”

Officials also said they have upgraded the T.F. Green Web site and added a page for the airport on the social-networking site Facebook. Green is in the midst of a regional marketing campaign with billboards and online ads aimed at attracting new travelers.

Google Inc. announced Tuesday that it would sponsor free wireless Internet access for the holiday season at 47 participating airports and on Virgin America flights starting Monday. T.F. Green is not one of the airports, but Boston’s Logan International is.
