Thundermist almost ready in West Warwick

Posted 11/28/11

WEST WARWICK – Thundermist Community Health Center’s new home in the Cotton Shed building at Royal Mills is nearly finished, as project designer Vision 3 Architects of Providence wraps up the final stages of its conversion of the historic property.

The Vision 3 design kept historic details of the 120-year-old mill building, including the windows, heavy timber construction and exposed brick, while providing Thundermist 28 modern exam rooms, new administrative offices and a 100-person conference room.

Design work on the 18,000-square-foot space began in February 2010, construction started in August of that year and a ribbon-cutting for the clinic took place at the end of July.

Vision 3 is now finishing up work on first-floor space in the building that will be used as separate office space.

The R.I. Historic Preservation and Heritage Commission worked with Vision 3 in adapting the building. •
