Tomasso bills modify Rhode Island pot laws

PROVIDENCE – Rep. Lisa P. Tomasso, D-Coventry, has introduced legislation that would make changes to the state’s medical-marijuana laws.

The bills would reduce the number of marijuana plants a cardholder can grow, increase the amount of usable marijuana a cardholder can possess, and require a cardholder who cultivates marijuana to obtain a certificate of cultivation as a matter of regulation. Tomasso said that she introduced the legislation to ensure Rhode Island is “both highly successful and safe” in its medical-marijuana regulation.

“As we continue to learn what works best in other states and in our own, it is important that we make the proper adjustments to fit those best practices,” she said.

Another bill would prohibit compassion centers from advertising medical-marijuana sales in print, broadcast or through in-person solicitation. •
