SMITHFIELD – A topping off ceremony was held recently for Bryant University’s new Academic Innovation Center, a two-story, 50,000-square-foot building under construction by Everett, Mass.-based Bond.
The building will house classroom space for students in the College of Business and College of Arts and Sciences. It also will include a café and a 4,000-square-foot innovation forum. It is scheduled to be completed before the 2016 academic year. Ground was broken in May.
During the ceremony, Project Manager Dan Ramos signed the beam topping off the Academic Innovation Center.
“Bond is proud to be part of this exciting team on Bryant’s campus,” Robert Murray, Bond president, said in a statement. “The construction of the Academic Innovation Center will result in a transformative signature building for the university and its students.”
Bond also is working on the expansion of Bryant’s Chace Wellness Center, which includes a two-story, 6,700-square-foot addition and 3,400-square-foot renovation along the east side of the existing Multipurpose Activities Center.
Bond will expand a training room on the center’s first floor and construct office space for the athletics administration and Bryant’s division 1 football program on the second floor.
With these projects, Bond said it is maintaining its “strong ongoing relationship” with Bryant University, having recently completed a 33,000-square-foot renovation of the university’s Salmanson Dining Hall, which also included upgrades to the property’s kitchen, server and adjacent office space.
In September, an athletic building under construction collapsed at Bryant, injuring six people. The steel that was being erected collapsed forward, resulting in the injuries. WPRI reported that AZ Corporation of Stonington, Conn., was overseeing that project, which will be an indoor practice facility.
