Toray gets certification for milk containers

Posted 5/21/12

NORTH KINGSTOWN – Toray Plastics (America) Inc. announced this month that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition has granted the company Interstate Milk Shippers (IMS) certification for single-service products.

According to a news release, the certification signals to milk and dairy-products manufacturers that the firm’s packaging-manufacturing processes and packaging materials are recognized as safe for use with dairy applications that are shipped interstate. Toray said it is expanding in the dairy market with new packaging and lid technologies.

Toray is the only U.S. manufacturer of precision-performance polyester, polypropylene and bio-based films. •
