Tour showcases downtown housing

PROVIDENCE – More than 300 people attended a downtown Providence tour of condominium and apartment buildings on Oct. 17, filtering through sites including the Arcade Providence, Avalon at Center Place and the new building at The Promenade.
Several buildings featuring new inventory coming on the rental market were part of the walking and shuttle-bus tour. The event attracted 325 people, according to Joelle Kanter, program manager for the Providence Foundation.
The Kinsley Building, at 334 Westminster St., which remains under construction, opened its second floor to tour participants. The building will feature 44 apartments when finished.
The new building at The Promenade features 196 apartments.
And the newly renovated George C. Arnold Building, an unusual structure on Washington Street with a depth of 12 feet, opened its three linear apartments for touring.
The tour was organized by The Providence Foundation and the Downtown Providence Improvement District. The two organizations have collaborated on three previous tours of downtown quarters, the last in 2013, according to Kanter.
According to the Providence Foundation, the downtown population now exceeds 4,569 people. The population living in downtown Providence rose 70 percent from 2000 to 2010, according to the most recent U.S. Census.
