Towerstream Wi-Fi gets mobile-app sponsor

MIDDLETOWN – Towerstream announced on Wednesday it has partnered with location-based media company BlisMobile for a new initiative.
Consumers in the range of Towerstream’s Manhattan Wi-Fi project will receive fours hours of free Wi-Fi access in exchange for downloading a mobile app or looking at a daily deal.
Towerstream’s Wi-Fi network has more than 1,000 access points. Trials have shown smartphone users have received 4 Mbs to 20 Mbs of download speeds while laptops and tablet users have reached 30 Mbs to 90 Mbs.
UK-based BlisMobile has agreed to be a partner for the “first several weeks” of the new initiative, Towerstream said, adding that a long-term partnership is a possiblity.
“We believe that connecting consumers with products that are in their proximity is invaluable,” said Jeff Thompson, CEO of Towerstream. “Our distribution network for daily deals not only drives downloads to mobile apps, it significantly expands the reach of daily deal sites and all mobile app providers by offering untapped users — a key ingredient for all parties.”
