TransCanada donates $15K to Good Neighbor Energy Fund

PROVIDENCE – TransCanada, an energy sponsor for the Rhode Island Good Neighbor Energy Fund, has presented a $15,000 grant to the fund, which will help keep the heat on in 35 Rhode Island households.
The fund, which assists Rhode Islanders in temporary crisis with their energy bills, is a cooperative effort between the energy companies in the state, the United Way of Rhode Island and the state’s local Community Action Program agencies, and all Rhode Islanders. UWRI administers the fund.
TransCanada generates 560 megawatts from its combined-cycle Ocean State Power plant in Burrillville, which it markets to wholesale, commercial and industrial retail electricity customers throughout New England.
“We are so grateful for everything the fund’s sponsoring energy companies do to support the fund and this donation from TransCanada is just the latest example,” said Anthony Maione, president and CEO, United Way of Rhode Island. “It has come at the perfect time as it seems like Old Man Winter has finally arrived.”
The 2015-16 goal of the Good Neighbor Energy Fund’s “Warm Thy Neighbor” campaign is to raise $500,000 and provide energy assistance to more than 1,250 families.
“TransCanada is proud to support the Rhode Island Good Neighbor Energy Fund,” said Joe Collard, Ocean State Power Plant manager for TransCanada. “The fund serves a critical role helping Rhode Island families stay warm and connected, bridging an important gap that goes well beyond energy assistance.”
Rhode Islanders most often donate to the fund via yellow donation envelopes that are enclosed with energy bills through the end of March.
