PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island’s T.F. Green Airport was rated No. 1 in the nation for on-time arrivals and departures in Travel + Leisure’s July survey of America’s Favorite Cities.
The airport ranked fifth overall in the nation, with high marks also for its design, food, lounges, staff efficiency and transportation.
Travel + Leisure observed that the city of Providence was rated sixth best for summer vacation travel and the seventh best for Thanksgiving-time visits.
The city also did better than average in three of five categories in the Food and Dining rating. The “neighborhood joints” were rated No. 2, the cafes/coffee bars came in at No. 6 and the ethnic food selection was rated seventh.
The highest-rated U.S. airports commonly had free wireless Internet access, a variety of dining and entertainment options such as live music, kids’ play areas or spas.
The U.S.’s best airport is Houston, according to the survey, followed by Orlando, Minneapolis/St. Paul and Portland, Ore. In the list’s bottom tier, Boston came in 26th out of the 30 cities ranked while Los Angeles and all three of New York City’s airports were named the worst in the nation.
