Trinity Rep announces 2015-2016 season

PROVIDENCE – Trinity Repertory Company has announced its 2015-2016 season, which kicks off with “Julius Caesar,” Shakespeare’s tale of politics and revenge but with a female Caesar, Sept. 10 to Oct. 11.
“When we plan a season, we ask ourselves the same question about every work: ‘Why is this play relevant today?’ The 2015-2016 season reflects what is going on in our society right now,” artistic director Curt Columbus said in a statement. “Through a series of classic and modern adventures, we dissect, understand and honor the rebels, renegades and pioneers among us. From children to heads of state, Western settlers to first-wave feminists – the brave ones, the unique ones, the different ones, help us understand what it’s like to be in someone else’s skin, even just for a minute.”
The rest of the schedule is as follows:

  • “The Heidi Chronicles,” a portrait of a woman coming of age during the 1960s through the 1980s, from Dec. 3 to Jan. 3.
  • Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” now available to subscribers for purchase. “A Christmas Carol” will start performances Nov. 7 and will extend through New Year’s Eve. Trinity Rep’s annual production of this holiday classic has completely sold out the past four years.
  • “The Hunchback of Seville,” a “wild take” on Spanish history, featuring contemporary language, from Feb. 4 to March 6.
  • “To Kill a Mockingbird,” adapted in direct response to the events in Ferguson, New York City and elsewhere this past year, from March 3 to April 3.
  • The fifth play of the season will be a world premiere and the title will be revealed this summer. It will be shown from April 7 to May 8.
  • Rounding out the season will be the Rogers and Hammerstein musical, “Oklahoma!,” from May 5 to June 5.
