PROVIDENCE – The Trinity Repertory Company team has announced its 50th anniversary season line-up of plans, including “Grapes of Wrath,” “Oliver!” and “Intimate Apparel,” among others.
The Tony Award-winning theater’s 2013-2014 season will take place under the leadership of the Richard L. Bready Artistic Director Curt Columbus and Executive Director Michael Gennaro.
“To say that I am thrilled to be inviting Rhode Island to join us in celebrating Trinity Repertory Company’s 50th Anniversary season is an understatement,” Columbus said in prepared remarks. “This season has a strong, theatrical heartbeat. This season is theater that is unmistakably flesh and blood, heart and soul. We have selected six plays by great writers, plays that demand great actors to bring these fantastically surprising and remarkably human characters to life.”
The Trinity Repertory Company was founded in 1963 and since its inception, has produced 61 world premiers, mounted national and international tours and trained hundreds of new actors and directors through its MFA program. According to a release, Trinity Rep. features the last permanent resident acting company in the United States.
The theater’s 2013-2014 season starts in September with John Steinbeck’s “The Grapes of Wrath.” In November, the theater will host the New England premier of Christopher Durang’s comedy “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.”
From Jan. 23 to Feb. 23, the theater will present Sam Shepard’s “A Lie of the Mind” before bringing Charles Dickens’ classic tale “Oliver Twist” to life in the family musical “Oliver!” from Feb. 13 to March 23.
Spring 2014 will bring Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lynn Nottage’s “Intimate Apparel” to Trinity. The theater will close the season with “Veronica Meadows,” a world premier from resident Trinity Rep member Stephen Thorne.
Trinity Rep, which claims the title of Rhode Island’s largest arts organization, employs more than 100 artistic and administrative staff and generates nearly $12 million in economic activity annually.
