Rhode Island Latino Arts, Trinity Rep to stage bilingual ‘Romeo and Juliet’

PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island Latino Arts, in conjunction with Trinity Repertory Company, announced a new summer program, Shakespeare en el Verano (Shakespeare in the Summer), a set of bilingual, Spanish-English productions of Shakespearean plays which will tour Providence from July 9-23.

The inaugural performance will be “Romeo and Juliet,” which was adapted by Arte Latino of New England director Saúl Ramos and will be directed by Tyler Dobrowsky, Trinity’s associate artistic director.

“We’re thrilled to bring this project to life in collaboration with incredible partners and individuals from the community. Creating a free, bilingual, outdoor, family-friendly production of this beloved play celebrates everything there is to love about Providence,” said Dobrowsky.

Below is the performance schedule; all shows begin at 6:30 p.m., admission is free, no reservation is required and performances are appropriate for all ages.

  • Shakespeare en el Verano is funded in part by a Centennial Grant from the Rhode Island Foundation.

    The state’s oldest Latino arts and culture nonprofit organization, Rhode Island Latino Arts celebrates the art, history and heritage of Rhode Island Latinos. Trinity Repertory Company, now in its 52nd season, has produced 63 world premieres and sustains an estimated annual audience of 110,000.
