WATERTOWN, Mass. – The Tufts Health Plan Foundation has awarded grants to both the Rhode Island College Foundation and Community Catalyst, a fiscal agent for the Senior Agenda Coalition of Rhode Island.
The investments are part of $1.5 million the Tufts foundation is awarding for collaborative work for more than 200 organizations across the country, the foundation said in a press release.
“Advocating for public policy or systems change is critical to achieving social change at scale,” said Nora Moreno Cargie, president of the Tufts Health Plan Foundation and vice president, corporate citizenship for Tufts Health Plan. “We are investing in initiatives that promote coalitions and advance strategies that bring government, community organizations and older adults together to create a vision for the future of their communities.”
Rhode Island College Foundation will receive $41,802 to advance the Age-Friendly Rhode Island initiative by developing the Rhode Island Strategic Plan on Aging.
“Rhode Island College and the Rhode Island College Foundation are eager to bring our expertise to the development of the state’s Long Term Care Coordinating Council’s strategic plan, and we look forward to continued collaboration with community organizations to make Rhode Island a truly age-friendly state,” said Nancy Carriuolo, RIC president.
Community Catalyst will receive $50,000 to support the development of a new collaboration called “Senior Voices for Aging in the Community.” Partners are the Senior Agenda Coalition of Rhode Island, the Rhode Island Organizing Project and the Economic Progress Institute.
“This grant from the Tufts Health Plan Foundation will enable us to mobilize, recruit and develop senior consumers as leaders in a campaign to improve non-emergency medical transportation and protect no-fare transit services for very low-income seniors, especially in rural and southern regions of Rhode Island,” said Bill Flynn, executive director of the coalition.
