PROVIDENCE – Twenty cities and towns in Rhode Island will share slightly more than $5 million in federal Community Development Block Grant proceeds, with the majority of the funding heading to efforts to expand the supply of low- and moderate-income housing.
Awards ranged in size from $9,500 for the town of Foster to $711,500 for Burrillville.
In total, $1.9 million in grants will be directed to housing projects, 38 percent of the total, along with $691,044 for housing rehabilitation, or 14 percent of the total.
Another $1.2 million will go to public facilities improvements, or 25 percent of the total, while $707,480 will go to public services. Economic development efforts will collect $79,500, while administration and planning will collect $389,500.
