LINCOLN – Twin River Casino announced Wednesday that it will add 14 more table games to its existing 66 and hire approximately 90 new employees.
“When we began table games on June 19 of this year we had some confidence of their success, but clearly they have exceeded our expectations,” said John E. Taylor Jr., chairman of the Twin River board of directors, in a release.
“We think the time is right to expand our table game offering as evidenced by our success in just two short months, and by the number of guests waiting to play at certain tables, particularly during weekend hours.”
The announcement came on the heels of the Rhode Island Division of Lotteries approval last week to install the additional games, all within the existing Twin River footprint.
Gilbane Building Company and JCJ Architecture will complete the build-out at an estimated cost of $1 million.
Taylor noted that approximately 560 new employees have been hired since Rhode Island voters passed the referendum to allow table games at Twin River in November 2012, not including the 90 new employees the casino expects to hire. Twin River currently employs a total workforce of 1,448, just over 80 percent of whom are Rhode Islanders, Taylor said.
“We are proud of the fact that we have not only exceeded the employment promise we made during the campaign, but have assembled a workforce comprised of dedicated, hardworking professionals with strong ties to this state,” said Taylor in a prepared statement.
Taylor also added that revenue to the state of Rhode Island from the first month and a half of table games operations totaled more than $1 million, “a promising beginning for table games, and good news for the state.”
The exact mix of new table games will not be announced until the opening date draws nearer, but will include additional blackjack tables, according to the Twin River release.
The number of video lottery terminals will remain at 4,583 units.
