SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Two Ocean State restaurants earned spots on a list of the top 100 restaurants with scenic views in the country compiled by the online reservation provider OpenTable, the company announced Wednesday.
Boat House Waterfront Dining in Tiverton and Castle Hill Inn in Newport both made the unranked list, each garnering a Diners’ Choice Award.
Both restaurants capitalize on the views and the culinary opportunities of waterfront locations.
Boat House Waterfront Dining provides seaside meals on the Sakonnet River, with an emphasis on fresh and local meats, produce and seafood. The restaurant also made last year’s list.
Castle Hill Inn offers seasonal and local cuisine in its four indoor dining rooms and on its outdoor lawn. Located on a peninsula in western Newport, it overlooks the East Passage from the Atlantic Ocean to Narragansett Bay.
The winners were chosen based on more than 5 million customer reviews over the past year on OpenTable, which ranked restaurants based on their overall scores and on the percentage of reviewers that selected “scenic view” specifically.
The list highlighted restaurants in 29 states. California was by far the top state, with 22 of the 100 honorees, while Washington, Maryland, Nevada and New York rounded out the top five. Restaurants that served seafood or American food, especially Californian or Pacific Northwest cuisine, were particularly popular.
“A table at any of these winning restaurants is sure to be the crown jewel of your travel and dining experiences,” Caroline Potter, OpenTable chief dining officer, said in a statement. “In a single sitting, you can take in the very best vistas of each city while feasting on fresh, local ingredients and specialties to help you capture the true essence of the region.”
