DARTMOUTH – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s College of Nursing was ranked 79th in the country by U.S. News & World Report. The ranking placed UMass Dartmouth in the top 12 percent of the 670 nursing colleges across the country.

Nursing programs are ranked solely on input from educators at peer nursing institutions, according to the publication.

“What’s best about this honor is that it comes from our peers at other nursing schools,” said James Fain, dean of the College of Nursing, in a news release. “This shows our colleagues see the quality of education we provide – and know the quality of the nurses that graduate from UMass Dartmouth.”

The Dartmouth campus tied with sister school UMass Worcester, but performed below UMass Boston and UMass Amherst, which were ranked 50th and 64th, respectively.

The University of Rhode Island ranked in the top 20 percent at 127th, according to the U.S. News & World Report, and Rhode Island College’s school ranked in the lower 50 percent at 357th.

Johns Hopkins University, the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Washington all tied at the top of the list.
