SOUTH KINGSTOWN – Pharmacy students at the University of Rhode Island stepped from behind the counter to behind the camera to produce videos intended to raise awareness of the safety and importance of vaccines.

They did the work in an elective course, Communicating Vaccines, at URI’s School of Pharmacy, whose goal is identifying, preventing, and controlling infectious diseases that constitute risks to public health.

Fifth-year pharmacy student Erin Tibbetts said that having a strategy to get past ignorance regarding vaccines is important.

“This class provided me with the tools to be able to talk to a vaccine-hesitant parent or patient and answer any questions, dispel myths and ensure they have all the necessary and accurate information to make the best decision,” Tibbetts said. “I definitely feel more comfortable engaging with these patients and having a discussion about vaccines.”
