KINGSTON – The University of Rhode Island will host a Google+ Hangout Thursday, Aug. 8, to talk about all things sharks, the school announced. The Web event is tied into perennial favorite Discovery Channel series “Shark Week,” which kicked off Sunday.

The shark-themed hangout will run from 11:30 a.m. to noon. To start, URI Public Information Officer Todd McLeish will interview researchers Brad Wetherbee and Jason Ramsay and former URI graduate student Anabela Maia on shark behavior and physiology.

Viewers will then have the chance to ask the scientists questions about sharks.

Wetherbee studies the ecology and migration patterns of sharks. Ramsay focuses on shark physiology, particularly how their jaws work. Maia studies how sharks’ fins help them to swim.

Viewers can join the hangout at google.com/+universityofri and submit questions using the Twitter hashtag #URIshark.
