U.S. News: NEIT online program 8th best in U.S.

Local colleges and universities were recognized by U.S. News & World Report in its rankings released this week of the best online bachelor’s degree programs and best online MBA programs.

Online bachelor’s degree programs at New England Institute of Technology’s were ranked eighth out of 226 colleges and universities from across the nation by U.S. News. University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth also made the list, coming in at No. 132 for its online bachelor’s degree programs. The top school in that category was Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla., followed by Temple University in Philadelphia and the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla.

NEIT Senior Vice President and Provost Douglas H. Sherman released the following statement: “New England Tech follows a very innovative process for the development of all online courses that results in engaging and collaborative online learning environments. Knowledgeable faculty collaborating with experienced instructional designers using this innovative process has resulted in this prestigious recognition of which we are very proud,”

According to the report’s methodology, only degree-granting, majority online programs through regionally-accredited colleges and universities are analyzed for inclusion in the bachelor-level findings. Rankings in the U.S. News’ Best Online Programs report were calibrated from graduation rates, indebtedness of new graduates and academic and career support services.

Said U.S. News, “For working adults with some college credit, completing a four-year degree online may be the most practical way to obtain the knowledge and credentials needed to boost their careers. The 2017 edition of the Best Online Bachelor’s Programs can help prospective students select the schools that are right for them.”

UMass-Dartmouth was the only local school featured in the best online MBA programs, coming in at No. 105 out of 179 schools listed. The online MBA rankings evaluate schools based solely on data related to their distance education MBA programs, according to U.S. News.

Temple University (Fox) topped the online MBA list, followed by Carnegie Mellon University (Tepper) in Pittsburgh and Indiana University-Bloomington (Kelley) in Bloomington, Ind.
