PROVIDENCE – Brown University ranked 35th in graduate school rankings for medical research and 57th in primary care, according to the latest annual graduate school rankings from U.S. News & World Report.
Brown also ranked 49th for its engineering graduate program. The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth ranked 98th for its graduate nursing program. Roger Williams University’s graduate law school was not ranked but recognized in a “second tier” of schools to consider.
The 2016 Best Graduate Schools rankings features information and rankings for the largest professional graduate school disciplines – business, law, education, engineering and medicine – as well as specialty rankings within each discipline.
This year, U.S. News expanded its nursing rankings. The publication also updated the law school methodology: law schools received less credit in the rankings for employing their own new graduates.
“Nearly half of college students see value in pursuing graduate degrees,” said Brian Kelly, editor and chief content officer of U.S. News. “Our Best Graduate Schools rankings are designed to help prospective students research programs in their field of interest and evaluate the potential return on their investment.”
The graduate disciplines’ ranks are based on standardized test scores of newly enrolled students, employment outcomes for graduates, acceptance rates and other criteria. Rankings methodology varies across disciplines.
The Graduate School of Business at Stanford University was named the No. 1 full-time MBA program in the country. Yale University held onto its No. 1 spot in law school rankings. The University of Pennsylvania was named the top nursing master’s program. In engineering, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology placed first. In medicine, Harvard University ranked first. Johns Hopkins University ranked first for education graduate programs.
