WARWICK – The U.S. Department of Agriculture National Resources Conservation Service of Rhode Island is currently accepting preproposals for applications for conservation-innovation grants, which are designed to stimulate the development and adoption of innovative conservation approaches and technologies, the USDA announced Thursday.

There is a total of $70,000 available for the Ocean State and grants of up to $50,000 are available.

For 2013, the Rhode Island NRCS will consider preproposals that demonstrate the use of “innovative technologies and/or approaches” to address one of the state’s five innovative grant categories: program outreach, energy conservation, soil health, wildlife and CIG projects assessment.

Applications will be requested from eligible government or nongovernmental organizations or individuals for the competitive consideration of grant awards for projects between one and three years in duration. Applications are only available to projects in Rhode Island.

Applications for preproposals must be received in the NRCS Office in Warwick by close of business on May 24. For more information, visit: http://www.grants.gov/search/basic.do and under the Search by Funding Opportunity Number, input USDA-NRCS-RI-13-01 for additional information and the application.
