United Natural Foods, an independent distributor of natural, organic and specialty foods, in 2008 relocated its corporate headquarters to the American Locomotive Works complex in Providence. Initially, 150 workers occupied facilities in two historic industrial buildings, in space designed by DBVW architects. The most recent addition, a 30,000-square-foot space, includes open and collaborative work stations, traditional offices, informal gathering spaces, an employee café and flexible conference rooms. The project was designed to qualify for silver certification under the LEED commercial interiors program.
