United Way of Rhode Island recently honored Joanne McGunagle and Carolyn Belisle as Rhode Island 2-1-1 Partners of the Year for their efforts to help the 2-1-1 program – a 24/7 helpline connecting Rhode Islanders to human-services agencies throughout the state – thrive.
Last year, Belisle, who serves as director of community relations at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island, helped develop a public health screenings program in which Blue Cross and 2-1-1 participated in to offer up to six screening events each month at locations across the state.
McGunagle, executive director of Comprehensive Community Action Program, became the first chair of the 2-1-1 Advisory Board, and has provided office space for 2-1-1 staff for each of the past three years.
“Carolyn and everyone at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island have been incredible partners of our work to help the most vulnerable in our community” said Anthony Maione, president and CEO, United Way of Rhode Island. “As someone on the front lines dedicated to helping others, Joanne is constantly striving for ways to strengthen partnerships that empower people in need – she’s doing amazing work in the community each and every day.” •
